BUNNY CAPUANO

Bunny Louise Capuano of Callicoon, NY, a resident since 1994, died at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY on May 25, 2008. She was 72.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 31, 1935 to Joseph and Christina Luzzi Trapani.

She was a member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Callicoon, the Altar Rosary Society of Holy Cross Church, Catholic Daughters of America Court Father Raphael #1542. She was a retired secretary at the Brooklyn Museum.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony Capuano Sr. at home; a daughter, Victoria Capuano of Staten Island, NY; a son, Anthony Capuano Jr. and wife Eva of Staten sland, NY; and grandchildren, Joseph and Christina.

Services were held Thursday, May 29 at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon. Father Ignatius Smith, O.F.M. was the officiant.

Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Obernburg, NY.


MARGARET CAPUANO

Margaret Capuano of Callicoon Center, NY, a laundry worker and 38-year resident of the area, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, NY. She was 68.

She was born September 15, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY.

Margaret was a member of Mary Durkin’s family of Callicoon Center.

She is survived by her dear friend, Mary Durkin of Callicoon Center; one brother, Patrick Capuano of Stautsburg, PA; and one uncle, Anthony Capuano of Callicoon, NY.

She was predeceased by a brother, George Capuano.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, May 28 at St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville, NY with Father Ignatius Vu officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Youngsville, NY.


GRACE M. CHERRY

Grace M. Cherry, late of Sparrowbush, NY, passed away Wednesday May 14, 2008 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe, NY. She was 86.

She was born in Sparrowbush on August 6, 1921, the daughter of the late Frank B. Cherry and Helen Gilson Cherry.

Grace retired from Gamos Store in Sparrowbush after many years. She was a member of the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen Chandler of Sparrowbush and Anna Campbell of Matamoras, PA; a sister-in-law, Veronica Cherry of Matamoras; nieces, Sharon Branning, Joy Ryerson, Cherry Rosenthal, Kathy Aiken and Ellen Casper; nephews, James Chandler, Michael and Tim Cherry; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, F. Edgar Cherry and R. Philip Cherry; and her sister, Kitty Cherry.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 19 in the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church, where Rev. Robert Mayer officiated. Interment was at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.

NATALIA HAWRYLUK

Natalia Hawryluk of Pond Eddy, NY, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. She was 94.

She was born May 27, 1914 in Ukraine, the daughter of the late John and the late Anna Olijnyk Brodyn. She was married to Mike Hawryluk, who passed away in 1993.

She was a member of the Ukranian Women´s Organization and of St. Volodymyr’s Ukranian R.C. Church in Glen Spey, NY.

She is survived by a brother, Bohdan Brodyn and wife Olga of Pond Eddy; and nephews, Nicholas Brodyn and Roman Brodyn.

She was predeceased by her brother, Nicholas Brodyn, who died in WWII.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31 with a Liturgy Mass at Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating.

Burial was in Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.


LEONARD R. KEAN

Leonard R. Kean died on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, PA. He was 96.

He was born on June 13, 1911, in Cochecton, NY, son of James and Elsie Swendson Kean, of Equinunk, PA.

Mr. Kean was the founder of the Last Chance Hunting Club in Hancock, NY. His love of gardening, fishing and living in Equinunk made his life very happy. He also had a love of small children that made him smile and gave him much joy. His family will always cherish his love for them.

He is survived by two children, Elsie Schwing and her husband and Edward Kean and his wife; four stepchildren, Leonard Swendson, Mary Ann Peterson, Lanetta Newman and Kathy Tracy; two grandchildren, Christopher and Lenny; 10 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Wilfred; and a step-granddaughter, Amanda.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.


RAYMOND KAUTZ

Raymond Kautz died on May 26, 2008 in Winter Haven, FL, surrounded by his family.

He had been a resident at Alterra Brookdale Senior Living Center in Winter Haven, FL since April of 2006. He was born in New York State, but had been a snowbird since 1995 at Saddlebag Lake Resort in Lake Wales, FL.

Ray was born and raised on a dairy farm in The Beechwoods. Ray and his family owned and operated the business since the 1950s. He was an early innovator of many farming practices such as no-till planting, alfalfa growing, and corn grain production. He and his family were the first to host the first Down on the Farm Day in 1979, which has given non-farm people the opportunity to see and learn first hand about how a farm is run.

Over the years Ray served in leadership capacities for many Sullivan County farm organizations. He was president of Cornell Cooperative Extension, Sullivan County chairman of the Agricultural Program Committee, and Cornell Cooperative Extension chairman. Other organizations include the USDA Farm Services Agency, Soil and Water Conservation District, Farm Bureau, Dairy Herd Improvement Cooperation and the Dairy Cattle Breeders Association. Ray was very involved in the process of Sullivan County becoming the second county in New York to establish Agricultural Districts, and his farm was among the first to be included in Agricultural District #1.

Ray is survived by his wife, Charlotte Kautz of Callicoon; daughters, Cherie Stamey (Jimmy) of Lynchburg, VA, Lynn Daniels (Mark), Kristy Lairson (Jason) both of Lake Wales, FL; son Bill Kautz of Sarasota, FL; and six grandchildren, Sam, Kelli, Carl, Kacey, Katie and Ryan.

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, May 31, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 5830 Skokie Rd., Lake Wales, FL. Another will be held in New York at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida and the Parkinson Foundation.


VINCENT EDWARD KOWALCZYK

Vincent Edward Kowalczyk of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 62.

He was born May 13, 1946 in Clinton, MA the son of the late Edward and the late Sophie Bersinski Kowalczyk. He was the owner of Kowalczyk Construction in Port Jervis, and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a Past Chief for the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department.

A family statement read, “He was a beloved father, grandfather and a best friend to all who knew him. He was a caring, honest, hard-working man. He was selfless, and would always put others before himself. He was proud of his children for all their accomplishments in life. He will be greatly missed.”

Surviving are two daughers, Toni Kowalczyk at home and Tracy Kowalczyk of Shohola, PA; two grandchildren, Michael Thorton Jr. and Alyssa Viggiani.; and the mother of his children, Rosemarie Sparozic.

He was predeceased by his two sisters, Dorothy Bogart and Nancy Griffin.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 with a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main Street, Port Jervis, NY.

Burial is at Manning Cemetery, Greenville, NY.

JOYCE A. LAWLER

Joyce A. Lawler of Dingmans Ferry, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2008 at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, Lehigh Acres, FL. She was 70.

She was a realtor for ReMax Realty, Milford, PA; was a member of the Milford Bible Church, Milford, PA, and the Red Hat Society.

The daughter of Cornelius and Josephine (Dyksen) Ott, she was born August 10, 1937 in Paterson, NJ. She was married to Bernie Lawler.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Diane Harr and husband, Gary of Milford, PA, Michael D’Ambrosio of Tobyhanna, PA, John D’Ambrosio and wife, Joan of Gouldsboro, PA; her mother, Josephine Ott of Shohola, PA; stepchildren, Christopher Lawler of Dingmans Ferry, PA, Karen Dunn and husband, Rob of San Diego, CA, Keith Lawler and wife, Heather of San Diego, CA; her sister, Donna Hughes and husband, Gary of Winchester, TN; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews; and her pug puppy, McGee.

The family will receive friends at Stroyan Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, PA on Saturday, June 7, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Neil Wintermute will officiate. Burial will take place in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township, PA.

NANCY ANN MCLEAN

Nancy Ann McLean of Otisville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at her residence. She was 58.

Nancy was born in Newburgh, NY on December 6, 1949, the daughter of the late Cecil E. and Mildred Teeple Rumsey. She was the widow of Charles McLean, who predeceased her on May 31, 2007.

She was an EMT and a lifetime member of the Otisville Mt. Hope Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

She is survived by a son, John E. Doty Jr. and wife, Marie of Otisville; two daughters: Christine Doty and companion, Conrad Chenoweth of Middletown and Heather McLean and companion, John Vanduzer of Wurtsboro; three sisters: Grace Padgett of Sparrowbush, Doris Morris and husband, Joseph and Carol Babcock and husband, Harry of Middletown; four grandchildren: Ryan J. McLean, John E. Doty III, Haley R. Vanduzer and Landon Charles Chenoweth; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Cecil E. Rumsey, Jr.

A memorial visiting hour will be from 10 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church, Otisville, NY, with memorial services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Orange County Veteran Cemetery, Goshen, NY.

EDWARD SCHWEIZER

Edward Schweizer of Highland Lake, NY, a former resident of Warwick, NY, died January 14, 2008 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. He was 81.

The son of the late Joseph and Caroline Meyer Schweizer, he was born June 6, 1926 in Rosendale, NY.

He was a police officer with the Village of Warwick Police Department. He worked with Austin Decker and Sons as a plumber and worked for the Town of Warwick Water Department. He was a member of the Goodwill Hook and Ladder Company and of the American Legion Post #214. Edward served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Joyce Ashley of Highland Lake; five daughters: Helen Corkum and husband Frank of Warwick, Marie Lindemann of Schenectady, NY, Carol Bogart and husband Bill of Warwick, Joann Lemin of Schedectady, Donna Specht and husband Randy of Warwick; one son, Thomas Schweizer and wife Cathy of Warwick; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Feeney Schweizer, and his two sons-in-law, Raymond Lemin and Robert Lindemann.

Memorial visitation will be on Friday, June 6, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment of cremains in Warwick Cemetery with military honors.

THOMAS E. WALLACE

Thomas E. Wallace of Cuddebackville, NY passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 69.

He was born August 5, 1939 in Goshen, NY the son of the late Duke and the late Arminda Johnson Wallace. He was married to Linda Lee Wallace, who passed away December 30, 2007. He was a retired truck driver for Empire Forklift in Wurtsburo, NY.

A family statement read: “He was a loving husband; father and grandfather who loved to spend his time with his grandchildren.”

Surviving are one daughter, Arminda Gregory of Glen Spey, NY; two sons, Robert Knapp III and his wife Valerie and David Knapp and his wife Rebecca, both of Cuddebackville, NY; and five grandchildren, Robert Knapp IV, Allan Gregory, Brittany Grogan, Rheagen Gregory, and Dacota Knapp. He is also survived by his loving pet Rosie, his miniature pinscher.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the Warwick Cemetery in Warwick, NY. Cremation will be at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
