Regina Wagner thanks her community
By SANDY LONG
JEFFERSONVILLE, NY It was an amazing experience for me to see the unity of the community and the generosity of so many people. What a blessed day! said Regina Wagner in response to the overwhelming show of support that was displayed recently in Wagners community.
Following a diagnosis of myelodysplasia and the need to find a potential bone marrow donor, the retired educator called upon members of the community she served for many years. A donor registry drive was conducted and donations sought in support of helping Wagner and others afflicted with the disease.
The drive was an overwhelming success. Wagners colleague and friend Linda Argentati noted, You never know where a miracle may lurk. One unfolded last night. In our small rural communities, in difficult economic times, over 600 people joined the National Bone Marrow Registry, and close to $25,000 was raised for DKMS [the worlds largest marrow registry] to continue their efforts. There really arent words to express the appreciation and gratitude to everyone.
Wagner faces monthly chemotherapy sessions unless a matching donor turns up through the registry. Her progress can be followed at www.giftforregina.com. Interested persons can still register to become marrow donors by visiting www.marrow.org or www.dkmsamericas.org for more information. Request a free home typing kit at this website or by calling 866/340-3567.
Monetary contributions are needed to help defray the $65 fee for the donor testing process. Donations by check should be made payable to DKMS and mailed to: DKMS, Attention Alina Suprunova, 33 East 33rd Street, Suite 501, New York, NY 10016. Note In support of Regina Wagner in the memo section of the check. Visit www.dkmsamericas.org to make an online credit card donation.
