A weekend for antique lovers

HONESDALE, PA — Honesdale will hold its Arts, Crafts & Antiques Weekend on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. Visitors can browse the many antique stores while enjoying entertainment, craft vendors and street performers. Victorian dancers “Top Hats & Lace” will perform Victorian ballroom dancing under the Fred Miller Pavilion at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a huge authentic Amish quilt auction, beginning at noon, and chainsaw artist Myron Miller will transform logs into pieces of art.

Among the Honesdale attractions throughout the weekend (and the summer) will be the 2008 Wayne County Arts Alliance project, “Benchmark.” These unique, artfully decorated park benches are on display outside storefronts and offices all over the greater Honesdale area.

At the newly expanded and renovated Wayne County Historical Society, visitors can see a full-scale replica of the famous Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run on a track in America, and can enjoy viewing photographs from the past. Train buffs also can enjoy a railroad exhibit depicting the history of the D & H Canal Co.

The popular “Antiques on Wheels” parade, celebrating vintage and antique vehicles of all types, will kick off the day at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. And for those thinking of selling as well as buying antiques, Darlene Moran, certified antiques appraiser, will be available in the garden at Morning Glory Cottage, 622 Church Street, on Sunday between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. The charge is $5 per item, with a maximum of two items.
