Eight Sullivan County golfers qualify for sectionals at league championships; Libertys Goldstein finishes one stroke behind Kingstons Kleeschulte
By RICHARD A. ROSS
SWAN LAKE, NYBlue skies and bright sun offered up a tailor-made milieu for the OCIAA Section Nine Golf Qualifier on May 14 as the leagues best golfers took to the greens looking to make the cut and move on to the Section Nine championships slated to begin at the Villa Roma on May 19.
Only the top 35 and ties would advance. As golfers began teeing off on holes one and 10, fast greens and stiff competition would loom large in paring down the field of 72 golfers on the par 72 course.

The defense rests
By RICHARD A ROSS
JEFFERSONVILLE, NYFollowing the presentation of the closing argument, an attorney for the defense will rest his or her case and allow the jury to decide if the accused is guilty as charged. Sometimes that defense is so porous that a jury requires little or no deliberation to render its verdict.
In the case of Sullivan Wests 13-3 loss to Liberty on May 13, the issue was exactly that: no defense.
A surfeit of errors made the case all too clear and the verdict a slam-dunk: guilty by mishap.
