SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop will provide a treat to the county to help usher in the summer: a free weekend of theatre and desserts in the Nartoff-Wells Auditorium of the Rivoli Theatre. (The auditorium has both heat and air conditioningat this season, who knows which we might need?) On the menu are a duo of delicious one-act plays showcasing the work of two new directors, and a variety of desserts for sampling afterward. The curtain rises at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Dating Blind, by Matthew Side, tells the story of a normal man and a regular woman who are exploring the relationship world, one blind date at a time. As they try to make the best of each dinner, the audience will laugh, cringe, and maybe even recognize prior dates of their own.
Matthew Side of Mongaup Valley has proven himself a talented actor, but debuts as both playwright and director with this production. The show features Rebecca Robbins of Rosendale, Ellen Pavloff of Kerhonkson, Chris Wells of Woodbourne, Tom DelFavero of Livingston Manor and Anthony Chanov of Liberty.
Fourteen, a one-act play by Alice Gerstenberg, follows the crumbling of perfectly laid plans of an upper-crust mother preparing to debut her young daughter to New York society. Who would ever conceive of hosting a dinner party for 13 people? Certainly not the fastidious Mrs. Pringle, who has gone to great lengths to invite just the right number (14) and mix of people.
Director Jim Schmidt of Hurleyville, with extensive experience behind the scenes as technical director, is sitting in the directors chair for the first time with this production. Under his direction are Cass Collins of Narrowsburg, Ashely Nygard of Grahamsville and Rick Schafstein of Rock Hill.
The theatre is handicapped accessible and parking is available.
Though admission is free, donations are gladly accepted and tax-deductible, as the SCDW is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. No advance reservations are required.
