Farmers’ bounty comes to Honesdale

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Farmers’ Market will launch its 2008 summer season on Saturday, May 24, trackside behind the Wayne County Visitors Center, Commercial Street, Honesdale, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Vendors offer a variety of home-grown and homemade items including lmeat and poultry, bread and baked goods, fudge and ice cream. Hand-crafted items including knit and crocheted clothing, rag rugs, jewelry and more are also sold.

The market will be open rain or shine every Saturday through October.

New vendors this year include Chris Lantzsch of Lantzsch Farms selling eggs, beef, poultry and sweet corn in season, and Hal and Barbara Reitzig of Red Maple Farm in Waymart selling alpaca fleece and yarn as well as finished alpaca products. Returning after last year’s absence are Brian Fox of Salem Mountain Natural Vegetables with chemical-free produce and Roger Hill of Treeline Gardens with vegetable bedding plants, heirloom tomatoes, apples cider and more.

Others returning this year are cheesemakers Jay and Emily Montgomery of Calkin’s Creamery, and Richard and Carol Barrett of Fallsdale Farm; Richard Tregidgo of North Slope Farm in Mount Pleasant with organic shrubs, trees and flowers; and vegetable farmers Jim Yatsonsky of Yatsonsky’s Farm and Jay Vail of Vailland Farm on Cochecton Turnpike, among many others.
