Sullivan West inducts 32 into National Honor Society
Largest group ever inducted in school reflects widespread academic excellence
By RICHARD A. ROSS
LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY In its largest induction ceremony to date, Sullivan Wests National Honor Society welcomed 32 members into its fold on April 23. Current membership includes an impressive 20 percent of the high school population. A cumulative average of 87 percent is required for induction. That average must be maintained for a year and a half prior to entry.
Following a welcome by adviser Patricia Hawker and an introduction of the members by president Sarah Lander in the school cafeteria, parents, students and guests sat down to a delicious dinner prepared by Jills Kitchen.
In the ceremony held in the school auditorium, Lander gave a brief overview of the organizations history and told the new inductees, I hope you all continue to soar. District superintendent Dr. Kenneth Hilton stressed the true meaning of the motto Noblesse oblige, by asking the students to think of a way that they can serve others.
The candle-lighting ceremony included remarks by Lander about the importance of knowledge, which she noted is only acquired through diligence. Vice president Julia Berger spoke about the importance of scholarship, while treasurer Matt Layman stressed the meaning of character. Secretary Chelsie Schadt stressed the value of service.
Each new inductee was introduced by a current National Honor Society member who celebrated the new members most outstanding characteristics.
This years inductees are Sara Alsdorf, Kaitlyn Berrian, Eric Burton, Morgan Collins, Juliet Corcillo, Kevin Correa, Brendan Creegan, Nicholas Cucci, Rebecca Deppa, Kathryn Dnistrian, Logan Grishaber, Alessandra Imbesi, Brianna Kline, Gabriel LagGrutta, Meghan Lowe, Ashley Mahoney, Kathryn Manzi, Danielle Marino, Danielle Meyer, Arthur Norden, Gaston Owen, Hannah Rettoun, Kelsey Ritz, Robert Rosa, Michael Sandler, Austin Sauer, Courtney Schadt, Olivia Seidl, Harold Smith, Claire Stabbart, Molly Stabile and Cindy Szeflinski.
