Registration open for NACL teen Shakespeare workshop

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — Registration is now open for a week-long theatre workshop for area teens to be held by NACL this July, culminating in a public presentation. Teens (ages 12 to 18 years old) will work with NACL to create an original, contemporary version of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The students will study NACL-style physical theatre skills, creative play-making, writing, music, song composition and the vocal execution of Shakespearean text. The young actors will create and develop scenes to construct an original, contemporary performance based on Shakespeare’s famous comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Led by NACL teachers Glenn Hall and Sarah Dey Hirshan, the workshop will culminate in a public performance on Friday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m. at the NACL Theatre.

This year, NACL is accepting donations to be used towards NACL’s Student Scholarship Fund. The fund will give teens who would otherwise not be able to afford the workshop the opportunity to experience the joys and hard work of creating theatre. Our goal is to raise $650, in order to offer two scholarships to underprivileged teens.

The workshop schedule will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday from July 21 to July 25. A healthy lunch will be provided by NACL. The cost is $325. There will be 15 students maximum.
