Help honor local heroes

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Collage artist Erica Hart, 2008 recipient of the Artists in the Community grant for her “Heroic Spirits Shine in Sullivan County” proposal, has put out a call for county residents to nominate local heroes to be included in the mural she is creating. Sullivan County residents, living or deceased, who have exhibited great courage, perseverance, service, kindness or generosity can be honored in this mural. Public participation will determine who will be included in this work of art, and help provide information about the honorees.

Hart has scheduled a series of information sessions about the mural, starting with an event at the Crawford Public Library at 393 Broadway in Monticello on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. Subsequent sessions will be held at the Village Hall in Jeffersonville on Center Street (next door to the library, upstairs) on Thursday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.; and at the Livingston Manor Free Public Library at 92 Main Street on Monday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m.

The project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program for Sullivan County, a regrant program of the NYS Council on the Arts, administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
