Frost Valley celebrates cherry blossom season with a concert

CLARYVILLE, NY — A traditional Japanese cherry blossom concert will be held on Sunday, May 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Friendship House at Frost Valley YMCA. Shigeaki Hoshi, music director, will conduct. Other performers will include Shigeaki Hoshi, piano; Tetsuo Koyama, trumpet; and Masa Fujiwara, clarinet. The group will perform traditional folk music from both American and Japanese cultures. Audience sing-along participation will be encouraged.

If weather permits, the concert will be moved outside where, hopefully, the cherry blossoms will be on display. The concert is being held as part of the Tokyo-Frost Valley Partnership.

The Tokyo-Frost Valley Partnership serves the Japanese community in the tri-state area through youth and family programs. When the program began in 1979, its main objective was to establish YMCA programs for Japanese families, bringing them together with American families to share experiences and skills that would not only make their stay in a foreign country more pleasant but also enhance both cultures. Today, the partnership reaches more than 2,000 participants annually through a broad spectrum of services.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.
