Tri-Valleys Murphy and Sullivan Wests Reimer hook up in a pitching duel; Bears edge Dawgs in eight-inning thriller
By RICHARD A. ROSS
JEFFERSONVILLE, NYEvery baseball game is unique, but none are more riveting than those featuring a great pitching duel between two premiere starters.
Thats exactly what was on display on April 29 as Tri-Valleys Bo Murphy and Sullivan Wests Brad Reimer locked up in a high school classic. As Tri-Valley coach John Rusin and Sullivan West coach Kurt Scheibe were quick to point out following the game, it was a shame that someone had to lose.
By days end, Murphy had struck out 15 Bulldogs and Reimer had fanned 10 Bears. But the dominance displayed by the pitchers extended beyond their pitching lines.

Run and gun

JEFFERSONVILLE, NYGood pitching and outstanding defense will inevitably lead to wins. Sullivan West mustered both in an exciting 2-1, eight-inning league victory over James I. ONeill on April 30.
Riding the solid outing of senior hurler Sarah Lander, who found her groove, and a gun-of-an-arm by center fielder Cara Davies, who cut off a potential go-ahead run at the plate by the Lady Raiders, the Lady Bulldogs got the kind of win that could well be a preamble to many more.

Track
Relays redux
By RICHARD A. ROSS
GRAHAMSVILLE, NYAn overcast day could not dim the efforts of Tri-Valleys boys and girls, who triumphed over other Division II competitors at the annual Tri-Valley Relays, held on May 3. Unlike other track meets, relay meets are scored heavily on the combined efforts of teammates in events. While typical track meets feature 400, 1600 and 3200 relay races, meets like the Tri-Valley Relays also have tandem scoring in field events, where the combined throwing distances or pole vaulting heights of two competitors are added together for a team score.
