Liberty Free Theatre casting for new show

LIBERTY, NY — The Liberty Free Theatre is auditioning actors and bluegrass musicians for “Kinfolks and Mountain Music,” three one-act plays that chronicle the coming to maturity of a young boy in the coal country around Hazard, KY. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 109 South Main Street, on Monday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m.

The plays are adapted by Susan Sandler (“Crossing Delancey”) from “Kinfolks,” a collection of short stories by Kentucky writer Gurney Norman (“Divine Right’s Last Trip”). The roles are the Narrator (any gender or age, but preferably a young girl of 10 or 11); Wilgus at ages 8, 13, and 25 (cast with one actor or separately); Fat Monroe, a truck driver, 30s to 50s; Uncle Delmer, 30s to 40s; and two to four musicians. Performances will take place in mid-summer or fall. There will be some pay.

The theatre will also accept actors for general audition at that time. They may bring something prepared if they wish. Casting is open and not restricted by race or ethnicity.
