Would you like a spot of tea?

CALLICOON, NY —Miss Burnham’s Tea Room will once again be opened for an authentic English Cream Tea on Saturday, May 3. The public is invited to drop in at the parish hall of St. James Episcopal Church in Callicoon between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. for a spot of tea and the delicacies that go with it.

The parish’s resident Anglophile, Nelly Burnham, will be on hand to supervise the proceedings and insure that everything is just as it would be if you stopped by a quaint little tea room in Canterbury or the Cotswolds. In addition to a selection of teas, there will be scones with cream or homemade marmalade, finger sandwiches, sugarplums, dainty cookies and more. If you wish to look the part of a proper English lady, you may borrow a fancy hat to wear while sipping and munching.

Red Hat ladies are encouraged to come in full millinery finery.

A donation of $9 is requested to further the work of the church.

You may also purchase a copy of a cook booklet entitled, “Scones, Sandwiches, and Other Delectables.” It features an introduction to the world of teas, “Water Bewitched, Heaven’s Delight,” by tea sommelier Elizabeth Knight, along with recipes for Miss Burnham’s Special Scones, Wartime Bran Loaf from the pastry chef of the Waldorf Astoria, and Spotted Dick.

St. James Church is located on State Route 17B, across from Roche’s Garage.

For more information call 845/887-5454 or Nellie at 607/498-4614.
