Fly a kite; view a film; admire a work of art
SCCC weekend chock full of activities for all ages
LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) will host its 17th Annual Kite Festival on Saturday, May 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The rain date is May 4.
The free festival will include the traditional kite flying demonstrations and contests, as well as family-friendly games, rides, food and music. Local service organizations and vendors selling jewelry, floral arrangements, soaps, candles and more will be on-hand. Free kites will be distributed to the first 200 children.
The festival is sponsored by SCCC in conjunction with Robert Green Auto & Truck Dealerships, Jeff Bank, the Sullivan County Visitors Association, the Tobacco Free Coalition and WSUL/WVOS Radio. For more information call 845/434-5750, ext. 4303.
The kite festival will be only one of several activities hosted by the college this weekend. The Fisher Film Festival, which recognizes and celebrates the talent, dedication and artistic expression of local artisans, will host various media artist presentations and discussions on Friday, May 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Seelig Theatre. And the SCCC Student/Faculty Art Show kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, May 2 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Kaplan Student Union. Works will continue to be on display throughout the weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
For those interested in meeting with faculty and learning more about the colleges academic programs, there will be a campus tour departing at 10:00 a.m. from the Harold Gold Founders Hall lobby (upper J building) on Saturday.
