May Day opening for Dorflinger Glass Museum
WHITE MILLS, PA Final details are being added to the new 2008 special exhibits at the Dorflinger Glass Museum in anticipation of the museums opening on Thursday, May 1. Three different displays will highlight the season. The Dorflinger Legacy: Glass from Family Collections offers an opportunity to see pieces belonging to descendants of Christian and Eugene Dorflinger. Patterns, Designs & Motifs features the distinctive elements of Dorflinger glass and Roses Cut in Glass explores variations from the many Wayne County glass factories on the rose pattern.
There will be almost two dozen examples of Dorflinger glass drawn from family collections, including descendants from branches of the Christian Dorflinger and Eugene Dorflinger families. These pieces are rarely seen unless loaned for special exhibits. This display will complement two long-term loans of glass from June Dorflinger Hardy and Jane Beers, both great granddaughters of Christian Dorflinger.
The Dorflinger Museum will be open to the public on Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The season will run through October 31 and weekends only in November.
Also opening on May 1 is the Museum Gift Shop, which has been stocked with a wide variety of glass gift items including a large variety of glass jewelry, unique paperweights, art glass from Robert Eickholt Studios and handblown Blenko Glass. All proceeds from the shop are used to support the Dorflinger Glass Museum.
