TIMOTHY E. HILL

On Sunday, April 20, 2008, Timothy “Tim” E. Hill of Woodbourne, NY, passed away peacefully at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, after a long illness. He was 53.

The son of the late Floyd J. and Barbara G. Galloway Hill, he was born on September 15, 1954 in Liberty, NY. He was the Democratic Commissioner for the Board of Elections, a past president of the New York Board of Elections Association, a member of the Executive Committee, Democratic Chairman of Sullivan County, a member of the Tri-Valley Lions and the Hudson Valley Antique Bottle Club among many other affiliations. Tim was also a member of the Woodbourne Fire Department where he started the Annual Pancake Breakfast every February; and he was an avid antique flask collector.

A family statement reads: “Tim was a quiet but determined man, a devoted and loving husband dedicated to his family, friends and the Democratic Party. He never complained and was very heroic throughout his illness.”

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Chris, at home; his mother-in-law, Julia Ognan of Arizona; a brother-in-law, Peter Ognan of Connecticut; two aunts, Frances Hill of Grahamsville and Jenny Slowick of Arizona; two uncles, Peter Lagonowicz of New Jersey and Walter Lagonwicz of Florida; and two cousins, Carolyn Hill and Donna Conklin and her husband Steve, all of Grahamsville, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 42, Woodbourne. Interment will follow at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Route 55, Grahamsville, NY.

ROBERT FRANK GULLONE

Robert “Bob” Frank Gullone, 66, of Milanville, PA, died on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. He was 66.

His wife, the former Dolores A. Hutchison, died January 16, 2003. The couple married in 1964.

Born August 7, 1941 in New York City, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne Smith Gullone.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Paris as a cryptographer during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he owned and operated The Rail Diner in Paterson, NJ. Later he served as a patrolman and detective with the Montville Police Department. After retiring, he moved with his family in 1981 to Milanville.

He and his wife built and ran the family restaurant, Mustard’s Last Stand, in Indian Orchard, PA. Later, they purchased and ran Northside Market deli in Honesdale, PA.

He was a renowned firearms consultant in the area and an active lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Gullone and wife Margaret of Calkins, PA and David Gullone and wife Macella of Scranton; a sister, Judith Fagan and her husband Jack of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Megan, Rachel, Lauren and Ryan; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale, with Father Edward Finn officiating. Interment followed in Calkins Union Cemetery.

MICHAEL J. HYLAS

Michael J. Hylas of Forestburgh, NY, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. He was 83.

A longtime resident of Sullivan County, he was born in Congers, NY on February 25, 1925, the son of the late Michael and Mae (Clark) Hylas. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S Gattling and U.S.S. Providence during WW II. He was a retired boilermaker with Local #5 and the former owner of the The Rockview Golf Course in Montague, NJ,

He is survived by five children, Michael and wife Kathi of Port Jervis, NY, Jamie and wife Diane of Osterville, MA, Mark and wife Maureen of Sparrow Bush, NY, Jennifer Seidel and husband Herman of Forestburgh and Alexander and wife Christine of Pine Bush, NY; grandchildren Maggie Seidel, Mark Hylas, Johanna Seidel and Connor Hylas; sisters Sheila Larkin and husband Richard and Patricia Sheridan and husband John, all of Garnerville, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Clark Hylas; and his wife of 59 years, Winifred E. Hylas.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 21 at the Church of St Paul, Congers. Interment will follow with military honors in Gethsemane Cemetery.


ROGER ERIK JOHNSON

Roger Erik Johnson of Shohola, PA, formerly of Washingtonville, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Belle Reve, Milford, PA. He was 65.

The son of the late Erik Maurice and Evelyn Steinborn Johnson, he was born October 23, 1942 in Manhattan, NY. He was married to Carol Conrad Johnson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during Vietnam, where he was awarded the National Defense Medal.

He is survived by his wife Carol of 44 years; two daughters, Kristen Decker and husband Frank of Cornwall, NY and Kimberly Andrew and husband Eric of Port Jervis, NY; a sister, Karen Butler and husband Scott of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Kayla, Jillian, Jacob Decker, Megan and Travis Andrew; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will take place in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY with military honors at the convenience of the family.

GLORIA KUESTER

Gloria Kuester of Beach Lake, PA, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 7, 2008.

Born in Nanticoke, PA, she was the daughter of the late Sophie Virginia Grabowski. She was a graduate of Northwest High School in Shickshinny and later attended beauty school. Before moving to Beach Lake, she ran a beauty shop in Wilkes-Barre. A resident of Beach Lake for more than 35 years, she along with her ex-husband, Robert W. Kuester, owned and operated Kuester’s Inc.

Surviving are a daughter, Gloria B. Kuester; a son, Tom Maransky, of Sweet Valley; and a granddaughter, Trent Amber Maransky, of Mio, MI.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe and Dennis Vitz and Eugean Musial.

A graveside service was held on April 12, 2008 in Indian Orchard Cemetery, Indian Orchard, PA.


PHILIP FRANK KUHN SR

Philip Frank Kuhn Sr. of Shohola, PA, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. He was 70.

He was married to Emma Pirino Kuhn, who survives.

The son of the late Philip E. and Barbara Loebline Kuhn, he was born August 28, 1937 in Honesdale. He was a retired member of Teamsters Local # 445 and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his son, Philip Frank Jr. and Sherry Wolf and husband Paul of Shohola and Chantel Kunkeli and husband Todd of Eldred; five grandchildren, Philip Kuhn and fiancé Mel of Middletown, NY, Donald Kuhn and wife Stacey of Eldred, Keith Kuhn and fiancé Kelly of Jacksonville, FL, Ty and Todd Kunkeli of Eldred; and two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Don.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Cremation will take place at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.


OSYP LEWYCKY

Osyp Lewycky, of Glen Spey, NY and a longtime resident of the area, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 84.

He was born April 1, 1924 in Tysova, Ukraine, the son of the late Ivan and the late Anna Grunjska Petryshyn. He was married for 57 years to Sinaida Lewycky. He was a member of St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey, the Ukrainian Fraternal Association, Ukrainian National Association and Ukrainian Veterans Association (UPA). During World War II, he was in the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, which fought for Ukrainian Independence.

A family statement read: “Osyp loved nature, animals, gardening and art.”

Surviving are his wife, Sinaida Lewycky at home; sons William Lewycky and his wife Annette of Wellington, FL and Michael Lewycky and his wife Tania of DeWitt, MI; daughter Lydia Lewycky and her husband Dr. Craig Spisak of Garden City, NY; two brothers, Ivan and Myron; one sister, Osypa in Ukraine; five grandchidren, Alexander, Zoe, Deanna, Alec and Arianna; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 with a Liturgy Mass in St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey, with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating.

Burial was made at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, South Bound Brook, NJ.

ANTONIO MARTUCCI

Antonio Martucci, a longtime resident of the area, entered into rest on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 88.

The son of the late Pietro Martucci and Giacomina Lia, he was born February 4, 1920 in Italy.

Mr. Martucci was a retired foreman for the Ulster County Department of Public Works. He was a member of the Vera effigie di, Maria SS Addolorata, venerata nel Santuario, della Madonna dei Sette Dobri in Pignato Interamna (Fr.), 49th Ave. Vernon Blvd., Long Island City, Sottogli Auspicidi, St. Mary’s Church, the American Legion, the Wallkill Fire Department and the Wallkill Rod & Gun Club.

Survivors include sons John Martucci and wife Michelle of Glen Spey, NY and Pasquale Martucci of Pine Bush, NY; grandchildren Peter Martucci, Celeste Goodell and husband Ray, Antonio Martucci and Lia Martucci, Jaclyn Martucci and Christine Martucci; beloved sister Antoinette Evangelista of Bellrose, Queens; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Martucci; a son, Antonio P. Martucci and Antonio’s wife, Fredrica.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 18, 2008 in the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Bush, with Father Kevin Gallagher officiating. Burial was in the family plot at Bruynswick Rural Cemetery, Wallkill, NY.


GEORGE A. POOLE

George A. Poole, a 30-year area resident, died on Monday April 14, 2008 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 61.

The son of the late Frank and Ann Muckets Poole, he was born in Nyack, NY on February 14, 1947. He was a granite installer and was the owner of Granite by George, Swan Lake, NY.

A family statement read: “George was especially fond of his grandchildren and spent many fun-filled hours with them. He was a die-hard Yankees fan and he will be missed greatly.”

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen McLaughlin Poole at home; two stepsons, Frank Toscano of Narrowsburg and Dennis Toscano and wife Ruth of Liberty; a daughter, Shane Booker of Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Christine Rubio of Swan Lake and Patricia Inman and husband David of Liberty; two brothers, Frank Poole and wife Beverly of Sun City West, AZ and Richard Poole of Huntsville, NC; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were on Friday April 18, 2008 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Ivan Csete officiating. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh, NY.


KENNETH G. REDARD JR

Kenneth G. Redard Jr., a lifetime area resident, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Hankins, NY. He was 21.

The son of Kenneth G. Redard, Sr. and Sharon Litchhult Redard, he was born May 9, 1986 in Honesdale, PA.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Redard Excavating in Hankins and the plant operator for the Sipple-Redard Gravel Bank in North Branch, NY.

He is survived by his parents, Kenneth G. Redard Sr. and Sharon Letchhult, both of Hankins; and one sister, Louann Redard of Brooklyn, NY.

Friends may call Friday, April 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon, NY.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at the funeral home, with Pastor Peg VanSiclan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

LORI SCHUBELER

Lori Ann Schubeler, beloved daughter of Ken and Barbara Schubeler, died suddenly on Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Callicoon, NY. She was 41.

She was the loving companion of Jim Heisel; dear sister of Jeffrey Schubeler; and granddaughter of Doris and the late Thomas Doyle and the late Erwin and Teresa Schubeler. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A family statement read: “Lori loved the theatre, music, and especially animals. She had the courage and character to pursue her dreams despite the obstacles. Her mom, dad and brother will miss her greatly and will always love her.”

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, April 17 at St. Susanna Church, 616 Reading Rd., Mason, OH.

JAMES K. 'BUD' SMITH

James K. “Bud” Smith of Yulan, NY, a retired civil engineer and longtime area resident, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. He was 93.

The son of the late James W. and Eda Keller Smith, he was born October 16, 1914 in Chicago, IL. He was married to Mary Morrell Smith for 58 years.

James was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy as a Chief Petty Office. He was a graduate of New York University.

Survivors include his wife, at home; one daughter, Sally Smith of Rochester, NY; three sons, James W. Smith of Narrowsburg, NY, William Smith and his wife Ve of Yorktown, VA and Roy Smith and his wife Ginger of Lagrangeville, NY; eight grandchildren, Theresa, Matthew, Peter, David, JP, Keli, Holly and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville, NY. Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officated.

MATTHEW E. SMITH

Matthew E. Smith, formerly a 50-year resident of Township of Washington, NJ, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Belle Reve, Milford, PA. He was 94.

He was born April 20, 1913 in Hoboken, NJ, the son of the late Andrew and the late Bertha Popp Smith. He was married to the late Pauline Hourtoule Smith, who passed away in 1998. Matthew was employed at Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory, Palisades, NY.

Surviving are a nephew, Robert and wife Nancy Conod of Sparrowbush, NY; and great nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
