First monsters caught

LACKAWAXEN, PA — Of the 100 Monster Trout stocked in the Lackawaxen River on March 29, 23 were caught and certified. Among the winners was William Payne of Glen Spey, NY, pictured here holding his five-and-one-half-pound, 22.5-inch rainbow trout. With him is his fishing buddy, Joey DeFebo of the Village of Lackawaxen.

This is the second year for the Trout Derby, which is open to all anglers at no charge through the extended trout seasons to the end of February, 2009. Each trout is tagged with a number corresponding to the fish’s sponsor who provides a prize for the fish.
