King set to teach drama classes in Liberty

By RICHARD A. ROSS

LIBERTY, NY — “All the world’s a stage. And all the men and women merely players,” wrote Shakespeare in “As You Like It.” For actor/director Oliver King, the stage is a great platform for teaching kids not only about the theatre, but more importantly about themselves.

For the past three summers, King has directed Shakespeare productions in LaPolt Park that have afforded many young people an opportunity to engage in vivid theatre. “A Midsummer’s Night Dream,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and “The Taming of the Shrew” have graced the outdoor park theatre. This year, in addition to continuing the Shakespeare in the park tradition, King will lead drama classes at the Liberty Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesdays from April 16 to July 2, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Classes will cover improvisation, scene study, character analysis, staging and blocking, movement for the stage and voice and diction. The class will culminate with a public performance.

Though classes started on April 16, registration remains open. The cost for the series is $90 for 15 to 19 year olds and $180 for ages 20 and up. Register at the Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation Department at 119 North Main St. Liberty.

For more information call 845/292-7690.
