Dolly makes a match at DVHS

MILFORD, PA — The Delaware Valley High School (DVHS) Drama Club will present “Hello Dolly!” on Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27 in the DVHS auditorium. On Friday and Saturday the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee performance is at 2:00 p.m.

All three performances of “Hello Dolly!” will be preceded by the Harmonious Gardens Café, where theater-goers can enjoy delicious home-made refreshments. This year’s café will be open one hour before and after the performances, with food, beverages and souvenirs for sale. The art department’s annual art show can also be viewed before and after the show.

The cast features seniors MaryCate Morrison as Dolly and Brian Mattos as Horace Vandergelder. Supporting roles are played by seniors Meg Palermo, Kevin Pinero, Becky Philhower and Eric Langberg; juniors Damon Ficken, Kelly Owens Moricone and Kurt Merrill; sophomore Dionna Eshleman; and freshmen Alex Buda and Nadege Hoeper.

The turn-of-the-century tale centers around Dolly Gallagher Levi, a New York matchmaker engaged to help a pompous “half-a-millionaire,” Horace Vandergelder, in his pursuit of a mate. Much hilarity ensues, and in the end Dolly captures the reluctant Horace for herself. Originally starring Carol Channing, the show opened on Broadway in 1964. The film version, released in 1969, co-starred Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau.

Long-time DVHS drama director Kim Golden has been hard at work on the production since February. Choreographer Melissa Thomas, musical director Lance Rauh, vocal director Sandy Stalter, assistant director Caroline Lehman, stage manager Laura Walsh, set designer Steve Davis and lighting designer Brian Riker complete the list of backstage professionals. Parents of the Booster Club organize and staff many other activities, including the Harmonious Gardens Café.

Tickets cost $10 for adults, $7 for students/senior citizens. Early reservations are recommended. Ticket order forms can be downloaded from DRAMAatDV.org or call 570/296-1850, ext. 7373.
