Bus trip to highlight the healing spirit of Sullivan

LIBERTY, NY — This year’s Architectural Bus Tour of Sullivan County, presented by the Liberty Museum & Arts Center, will take place on Saturday, April 26. It will feature Liberty, Swan Lake, Briscoe, Swiss Hill Road, Kenoza Lake, Kohlertown, Jeffersonville, Youngsville, White Sulphur Springs and Loomis. The itinerary is designed to highlight Sullivan County’s history as a healing environment. There will be two identical five-hour trips, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, both departing from Liberty. The morning tour leaves at 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon tour at 1:30 p.m.

The bus will board at the Liberty Museum & Arts Center. Sharing their knowledge of Sullivan County will be hosts John Conway, author and Sullivan County Historian ( sullivanretrospect.com ), Liberty architect Robert Dadras and interior designer and preservationist Sharon Green.

Conway said, “This area of the Catskills was known for its natural beauty and its invigorating air long before Sullivan County was formed in 1809. The Lenape believed this was a sacred place, full of natural beauty and manetuwak, or spirits, who inhabited every rock, tree, bush and blade of grass. The Loomis Sanatorium, the mineral springs, Jeffersonville, and other remnants of this significant part of Sullivan County’s history will be among the highlights of this year’s trip.”

The tour will feature a stop at an architecturally significant place with a catered reception. Seating is limited and reservations are required. The price per ticket is $50.
