Scenic painting exhibit/workshop invites visitors to create
LIBERTY, NY There will be a scene painting exhibit/workshop by Cobalt Studios at the Liberty Museum & Arts Center on Saturday, April 12 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. It will provide a unique opportunity to both view scenic art and to get hands-on instruction in how to paint it.
At Cobalt Studios students paint full-sized theatrical backdrops and are also assigned projects to paint. The assignments typically are large-scale reproductions of photographs or paintings, and are intended to develop the students skills as well as display their knowledge and abilities. A selection of the scenic art will be for sale, and the students and museum will share the proceeds.
As visitors enter the gallery, they will see the finished work of Cobalt Studios students. In the center of the gallery, a Cobalt student will direct interested participants to a drawing station, and help them make cartoons come to life on paper placed on the floor. Other students throughout the museum will give instruction in stenciling, painting, putting foliage on a tree backdrop and creating a huge trompe loeil decorative marble cornice, all in theatre style.
