Opening day for kids

MILFORD, PA — The Pike County Commissioners will hold their 12th annual Pike County Children’s Fishing Derby from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at Lily Pond, Pike County Park (off Route 6 on Schocopee Road), in Milford. There is no fee for this event, which is for children under 16 years old, and registration will be held the day of the event. Participants must be accompanied by an adult and Pennsylvania fishing rules and regulations apply. Prizes will be awarded by age group.

Bait and loaner rods will be available but supplies are limited. Call 570/296-7744 to reserve a rod and reel. Scout Troop 77 will be at the event with worms for sale.

Approximately 1,500 trout will be stocked by the state and 400 trout will be stocked by Pike County, ranging from 13 to 24 inches, for this event. Stocking will take place on Friday, April 11, at 5:00 p.m. Children are welcome to come and help with the stocking of the fish.
