Free maple sugaring weekend

CLARYVILLE, NY — A free Maple Sugaring Weekend Open House at Frost Valley YMCA will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Guests visiting Frost Valley’s Maple Sugar House will learn how to identify a good sugar maple tree, how trees are tapped and witness the sap boiling process. The sugar house is located at 1920 Frost Valley Road (Ulster County Route 47) and is located approximately a half-mile east of the Frost Valley Main Camp entrance, which is 2000 Frost Valley Road. No check-in or reservations are required.

Frost Valley YMCA is situated in the heart of sugar maple country. Visitors at the Maple Sugaring Weekend Open House will experience all the elements of sugaring, from a snowy forest hike, brisk mountain air, tapping trees and the collection of sweet sap to the heat of a good wood fire, the steam of evaporating water and the sweet taste of 67 percent sugar-content maple syrup. (See feature for more information on maple sugaring.)
