FREDERICK G. BLASI

Frederick G. Blasi of Beach Lake, PA, a reservationist for The Inn at Woodloch Pines, Hawley, PA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 13, 2008. He was 54.

The son of the late Anthony and Doreen Giles Blasi, he was born December 21, 1953 in Scranton, PA.

Frederick was a member of Elmpark United Methodist Church in Scranton. A family statement read, “Frederick was a loving father, grandfather and best friend. He was a special, caring person that would do anything for anyone. He was well loved at Woodloch Pines and touched a lot of people’s lives. He was a talented artist with a special interest in painting; and he also was a gifted dressmaker, making dresses for weddings, proms and special events. He will greatly be missed.”

Survivors include his longtime best friend Alan Volz of Beach Lake; four children, Jessica Myers of Florida, Matthew Blasi of Florida, Amanda Blasi of Scranton and Nathaniel Blasi and his wife Amie of Illinois; four grandchildren, Zachary Blasi, Robert Myers, Ashley Pauli and Elizabeth Blasi; two brothers, Frank Blasi and Anthony Blasi both of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Mark Blasi.

A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 with a service by Rev. Gerald Blake at The Inn at Woodloch Pines. Cremation took place at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel, PA.

Donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Welcome Lake Fire Company, Welcome Lake, PA.


HAZEL G. COVART

Hazel G. Covart, a lifetime resident of the White Lake, NY area, passed away March 14, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Goshen, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was 72.

The daughter of the late William and Hilda Eldridge Hill, she was born in Eldred on March 19, 1935.

Hazel was an avid gardener and she was a Sullivan County Conservative Party Committee Person. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was also an amazing cook.

Survivors include two sons, Leslie Covart Jr. and his companion Fran Barry of Smallwood, NY and Jerome Covart and his fiancée Gina Han of Port Jervis, NY; two daughters, Debra Couser and her husband Pete of Fort Plain, NY and Valerie Fellenzer and her husband Mark of Goshen, NY; a brother, Ernie Hill and his wife Elina of Wurtsboro, NY; a sister, Alice Ferber of Callicoon, NY; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie A. Covart Sr., on July 19, 2007; and a sister, Ruth Hauck.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh and private burial of her ashes will be in Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, NY.


STELLA MAE DIUGUID ATKINS

Stella Mae Diuguid Atkins entered into rest peacefully on March 11, 2008 at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick, NY. She was 86.

Born on April 21, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Helen Twomey Diuguid and Harris Diuguid, and moved to the White Lake area in Sullivan County, NY as a young girl. She married Richard Frank Atkins on September 26, 1941 in the Covenanter Church in White Lake.

Stell was an avid reader, a fabulous cook and a lover of nature. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the Catskill United Methodist Church. For many years, she was employed as a librarian at the Catskill Public Library. She also spent many hours working for Literacy Volunteers and delivering Meals on Wheels. Prior to living in Warwick, Stella lived with her husband, Richard, for many years in Callicoon, NY, Monticello, NY and then Catskill, NY. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and homemaker. Her family was always first and foremost in her life. Her favorite things were the color orange, feeding her beloved cardinals, and enjoying her husband’s beautiful gardens.

Survivors include her son, Frank Atkins and wife Haydee of Warwick; her daughters, Susan Atkins Davidson and husband Alan of Woodbridge, CT and Linda Atkins Oettinger and husband William of Catskill; grandchildren Brad Davidson, Jared Oettinger, Rich Atkins, Amy Davidson and Taice Oettinger; great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard Frank Atkins; three siblings, Virginia Diuguid Schoonmaker, Harris Diuguid, and John Diuguid; and a nephew.

A prayer service was held on Friday, March 14 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Warwick with Pastor Richard Ryley officiating. Private interment will take place in Liberty, NY.

Donations may be made to the Warwick United Methodist Church or Mt. Alverno Center, Warwick.


BETTY ESCHENBERG

Betty Eschenberg of Callicoon, NY, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 82.

Mrs. Eschenberg was the daughter of Lodi and Josephine Boyd. She was co-owner of John H. Eschenberg Inc., and a loving wife, mother, friend and confidant.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John H. Eschenberg; five sons, John and wife Kathleen of Port Jervis, NY, Dennis and wife Kim, Steven and wife Nancy, William and wife Cathy, and Michael and wife Linda, all of Callicoon; two daughters, Anna Mullenski and husband Christopher of Raleigh, NC and Christine Coan and husband Drew of Chadds Ford, PA; her grandchildren, Ardis Eschenberg and husband, Donald Bad Moccasin Jr., Jessie Hight and husband Darren, John Paul Eschenberg and wife Danielle, Dennis Eschenberg, Richard Eschenberg, Jennifer Orvis and husband Andrew, Jeanne Sager and husband Jonathan, Alex Eschenberg, Donald and Daniel Klinger, Christopher, Kyle and Michael Mullenski and Katherine and Alexander Coan; six great-grandchildren; sisters Arlene Stoddard of Cornwall-on-Hudson and Eleanor Huggler of Nanuet; brother Ray Boyd and wife Fran of Callicoon; three sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Robert, Louis, John and Donald; and a sister, Ruth.

A memorial service is being arranged by her family.

DOROTHY M. HILL

Dorothy M. Hill, of Hillsborough, NH, died on March 3, 2008. She was 87.

Mrs. Hill was born in Hillburn, NY, the daughter of Irving and Ruth Degraw Conklin. Dorothy graduated from Suffern High School in Suffern, NY and worked at a drug store in Suffern. She married George V. Hill on September 17, 1955. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Suffern, and taught Sunday school. She moved to Monroe, NY with her family in 1969, where she kept a beautiful home and garden. She moved with her family to New Hampshire in 1976 where she worked at Nathaniel Hawthorne College in Antrim for many years, and Sylvania in Hillsborough. She loved her family, and holidays. Dorothy also loved to cook, read and shop. She loved Hollywood’s golden era of the 1930s and ‘40s, and her favorite singer was Bing Crosby. Dorothy loved to go out and enjoy life.

Family members include three children, George and Diane Hill of Hillsborough and Nelson Hill of Jeffersonville, NY; and four grandchildren, Deborah, Nelson, Christopher, and Diana.

She was predeceased by her husband George, and daughter Ruth Ann.

Final arrangements are private. There will be a memorial service in the future.


STANLEY F. PRYNKIEWICZ

Stanley F. Prynkiewicz, a resident of Port Jervis, NY since 1964, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at his home. He was 67.

He was born May 26, 1940 in Dickson City, PA, the son of the late Anthony and Stella Klastawa Prynkiewicz.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dickson City. He was employed by Murphy Buick, Inc. and Philips Fiber, both in Port Jervis, as a mechanic, and then worked for 39 years for Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis as a machinist and maintenance worker. He was a member of Mahopac VFW Post 5491 Men’s Auxiliary; Sons of American Legion Post #665, Dickson City, PA; and the Italian-American Club in Olyphant, PA. He was affiliated with Roosa-Fleming VFW Post 161, Port Jervis; and Tri-State Naval Ship #7241 by volunteering at Castle Point Veterans Hospital and many other civic organizations in the area. A family statement read, “Stan was a hard-working man. He quit school when he was a junior in high school to take care of his mother and younger brothers and sister when his father passed. He met and married Connie and raised her children as his own. He was very proud of his family.”

He is survived by his wife, Connie McBride Prynkiewicz at home; his stepson, Walter “Chip” Newman Jr. and his wife Colleen Conlon of Glen Spey, NY; a stepdaughter, Dawn Renee Newman of Port Jervis; two brothers, Joseph Prynkiewicz of Dickson City and Edward Prynkiewicz and his wife Cora of Charleston, SC; three sisters, Rose Nagy of Montrose, PA, Mary-Ann Lahotsky and her husband Eugene of Blakely, PA and Dolores Prynkiewicz of Dickson City; grandchildren Jessica Smith and husband James, Walter John Newman, III, Rhawnie Reil and Emily Newman; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers Anthony and John Prynkiewicz; sisters Pauline Malewicz and Fran Baron; and two nephews.

Funeral services took place Wednesday, March 19 at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis. Interment will be private.

HELEN ANN ROSS

Helen Ann Ross of Equinunk, PA, formerly of Milton, NJ, died on March 2, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 77.

She was born on January 23, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Henry and Katie Metzler.

She was a former owner of the River Inn in Hankins, NY. After selling the business, she went to work at Delaware Valley Job Corps in Callicoon, NY.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ernest E. Ross at home; son Henry C. Ross and companion Gertrude Gager of Equinunk; daughter-in-law Sandy Ross of Long Eddy, NY and former daughter-in-law Dawn Ross of Hankins; grandchildren Christopher Ross and his wife Erica, Shannon Ross-Boudwin and her husband Dale, Jessica Kenyon and her husband Andrew, Casey Ross, Emmylou Ross, Kimberly Ross, Daniel Ross, Garrett Ross and Kyal Ross; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her parents and by her devoted son, Ernest Ross II.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Goble Funeral Home, Sparta, NJ. Burial will follow at Holland Mountain Cemetery.


RUTH F. SEGAR

Ruth F. Segar of Jeffersonville, a homemaker and 80-year area resident, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 93.

The daughter of the late William and Johanna M. Johnson Adams, she was born April 9, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY.

Ruth was an 80-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville, NY, where she had been the choir director for 30 years, a deacon for three years, the church secretary for eight years and a member of the women’s association for 24 years; she had also been a longstanding member of the Liberty Grange.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew Segar and his wife Jackie of Swan Lake, NY, William Segar of Rochester, NY and G. Richard Segar and his companion Roberta Lawless of Pine Bush, NY; grandchildren Cindy Gorr and her companion Sean Miller; Wendy Vasquez, Kim Panzo, Darlene Muller and her husband Robert; Julie Russell and her husband Irving, and Carrie Segar; 10 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, George O. Segar, in 1980; a brother, Andrew Adams; and a grandson, Thomas R. Segar.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 15, 2008 in the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville with the Rev. Lee Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel, NY.
