Divas on the Delaware

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — The Delaware Valley Opera (DVO) invites all singers over the age of 16 interested in pursuing a career in opera or musical theatre to audition for their summer Training Program for Young Singers, to take place at the Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) from Monday, July 7 through Sunday, August 17.

The six-week training program for young singers emphasizes performance opportunities according to the ability of the participants, with classes in vocal techniques and interpretation, drama, stage movement, choreography and production techniques. Participants will take part in the 2008 Delaware Valley Opera summer season in the DVO Choral Ensemble, as technical and production assistants and advanced students in principal or secondary roles or in a Divas on the Delaware special staged production of opera scenes and ensembles. The deadline for application to the program is Wednesday, April 30.

Auditions will be scheduled in New York City and Narrowsburg, or by high-quality CD, tape or online recording. Two contrasting arias, resume and application are requested. The cost is $600 for commuters, $1,230 for residents, meals not included. College credit can be arranged through SCCC at a modest additional fee; partial or full scholarships will be offered to outstanding participants.
