Shakespeare, King and Big Oil on college’s April schedule

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) has announced its schedule of special events for April in the Seelig Theatre.

On Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m., SCCC and the SCCC Student Government Association will present “Barry Scott’s Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.” Scott created this inspiring tribute to teach students about the man who mobilized a generation of people and changed the world. Tickets cost $5 for general admission and are free for students.

On Saturday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m., The New England Shakespeare Festival will present “Much Ado About Nothing.” This classic comedy of deception, disgrace and the triumph of love is sponsored by SCCC in conjunction with the Sullivan County Democrat, WSUL/WVOS Radio and the Days Inn of Liberty. Tickets cost $20 for general admission and $18 for seniors and students. Group rates are available in advance.

On Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26 at 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m., the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop will present the Bill Duncan play “Trust.” A hundred years ago, John D. Rockefeller built an oil monopoly. A curious reporter named Ida Tarbell became interested in his methods, and her discovery became headline news. Tickets cost $16 for general admission, $14 for seniors and $7 for students.

On Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m., there will be a presentation in the Pearl Gold Memorial Lecture Series, “Why So Many Drug Recalls? Recent Changes In The Drug Approval Process.” Dr. Susan M. Chambré, professor of sociology at Baruch College, author and part-time Loch Sheldrake resident, will explore how citizens’ groups influence health policy. Admission is free.
