Monticello’s Jessica Fingers takes sixth in the 1500 at states

ITHACA, NY - Measuring herself against the best in New York State, Monticello junior Jessica Fingers finished sixth in the 1500 with a time of 4:44.08. The winning time was turned in by Jaclyn Marshall, a senior at Kings Park. Marshall ran 4:38.97. Finishers one through four were seniors, which bodes well for Fingers, who is a year-round runner. The state record in the event is 4:22.1 set in 2001.

Sullivan County’s only other girl entry in the states was Tri-Valley senior Courtney Roosa. She finished 21st in the 3000 with a time of 10:58.52. The winning time belonged to Meaghan Gregory of Burnt Hills in 10:07.92. The state record for the girls 3000 is 9:31.97 set in 2002.

Three Sullivan County boys competed at states. Tri-Valley senior Garrett Grey took 11th in the shot put with a heave of 48-06. Teammate Tanzeel Khan finished 21st with a mark of 45-03.75. The event was won by David Gros of Brockport with an impressive 59-01.25. The state record for the event is 64-11.50 set in 2004.

Liberty’s Matt Arielly finished 22nd in the triple jump. Albert Johnson of Corning won with a mark of 49-02.25. The state record in the event is 50-07.25 set in 1991.
