As we approach the vernal equinox later this month on March 20, winter prepares to pass from our region with early signs of thaw and increased flow in area waterways. Just below the dam at Shohola Lake in Shohola, PA, energetic runoff from recent storms and rising temperatures hinted at the watery rush to come. But just on the other side of the dam, the lake remained sufficiently frozen to allow ice fishing fans to practice their sport. Such variability is a hallmark of the seasonal transition.

Grants available for regional farm and food events

WALTON, NY—Farmers, agricultural event coordinators and local not-for-profits are invited to submit their event ideas for funding through the Sustainable Agriculture and Education (SAE) Event Grants. Sponsored by the Watershed Agricultural Council (WAC) and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), the SAE Grants support the promotion of local agriculture and consumer awareness.
