Bethel First honors those who helped

By FRITZ MAYER

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NY — It was honors all around as members of Bethel First handed out plaques to individuals and organizations that helped them earn the coveted Golden Feather Award at the Sullivan Renaissance award ceremony last August.

Among those honored were Robert Green Chevrolet, radio stations WSUL and WVOS, The River Reporter, Empire Resorts, Concord Associates, Ramsey’s Funeral Homes, Bethel Senior Center, the North White Lake Fire District, the Kauneonga Lake Engine and Hose Company and Julia Richmond, who was the liaison between Bethel First and Sullivan Renaissance.

Bethel First earned the top prize worth $50,000 for its works, including a new farmers market and numerous restoration projects in Kauneonga Lake.

The ceremony took place at the Bethel town board meeting on February 28. The town board also attended to other business, including the extension of the building moratorium. The moratorium, which covers large subdivisions but does not cover small projects or commercial projects, was set to expire on March 7. The board voted unanimously to extend it for two months in order to finish making changes to the proposed zoning law.
