Death stars explode on Main Street

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Astronomy Club and Morgan Outdoors will host a showing of NOVA’s recent production, “Death Star,” at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main Street on Saturday, March 1 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. This is the second “dinner and a movie” night this winter, where the film screening is accompanied by pizza, salad and soft drinks, with breaks for discussion.

“Death Star” tells the story of the amazingly violent explosions, known as death stars, that are so bright they are a billion times more luminous than the sun, and so distant that their light takes billions of years just to reach earth. Death stars are so elusive, the world’s top astronomers spent 30 years tracking down their source.

The film program will be followed (weather permitting) by an outdoor public viewing session at a nearby location. If you have a budding interest in astronomy, this is a good time to meet Catskill Astronomy Club members and learn about their public viewing events. This program is suitable for children ages 12 and up.

The cost of the dinner and film event is a $7 donation to the Catskill Astronomy Club for the general public, $5 per person for club members and families of three or more. Advance registration is required.

For more information call 845/439-5507 by 12:00 noon on March 1.
