Oscar-nominated ‘Atonement’ at CineArt

CALLICOON, NY — In February, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater will present the historical romance “Atonement,” currently nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, from Friday, February 22 through Tuesday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. There will be matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The theatre is located at 30 Upper Main Street.

The film tells the story of writer Briony Tallis, who, as a 13-year-old, irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister’s lover of a crime he did not commit. Keira Knightley and James McAvoy star.

Film critic Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times called the film “a rich, old-fashioned love story spun out of modern psychology and postmodern storytelling.”

Atonement is rated R. Admission costs $7.50.

A percentage of the profits and $1 per person from ticket sales benefit the programs and services of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County.
