Weekend of Chamber Music dinner concert to benefit Sullivan students
BROOKLYN, NY A supper concert evening will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 4:00 p.m. at the private home of of The Weekend of Chamber Musics (WCM) artistic director Judith Pearce, to benefit Sullivan County school music students.
A flutist with a distinguished chamber music career, Pearce and several of her colleagues perform to raise funds for WCMs Artist Coaching Project. The project brings professional musicians to young music students at Monticello High School and Tri-Valley Central School, where they work together in private lessons and chamber ensembles several times during the year. The WCM Artist Coaches also work on cross-curriculum activities combining music and other subjects, in a new Arts-in-Education effort that began last year. February 4 was the kickoff for this school years Artist Coaching Project.
Oboist Matt Sullivan, clarinetist Allen Blustine and pianist Marija Stroke are set to join flutist Pearce for the benefit, in a program of music by Shostakovich, Saint-Saens, Weir and Haydn. The musicians all maintain active performing and teaching careers in New York City and beyond, and they have been involved with Sullivan County students as coaches and mentors.
In addition to chamber music, the evening supper offers freshly prepared epicurean dishes, wine and breathtaking views of New York City. For early birds, there are new exhibitions on Egypt and Coney Island at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, just a short walk across the street from the concert.
Seating is limited and reservations are required. Admission to the fundraiser is a suggested donation of $75 per person, and it is tax deductible to the extent the law allows.
