New NPS superintendent

NARROWSBURG, NY — William Douglass, left, executive director of the Upper Delaware Council (UDC), welcomes Vidal Martinez, the new superintendent of the National Park Service Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, at the monthly meeting of the UDC on February 7. The two agencies work closely together on issues related to the Upper Delaware River region.

A native New Yorker, Martinez brings 32 years of federal service to his new post, serving most recently as superintendent of two NPS sites, George Washington Birthplace National Monument near Colonial Beach, VA, and Thomas Stone National Historic Site in Port Tobacco, MD. Martinez described the Upper Delaware as an outstanding natural resource and noted, “I look forward to working with the riverside communities and the park staff to preserve the river and offer recreational opportunities for our visitors.”

Martinez and his wife, Zoraida, have four children, ranging in age from four to 22 years old, and two grandchildren.
