Two ’50s-themed dances bop and sock the weekend

REGION — This week, the ‘50s return to the areawith a bop and a sock hop.

In Narrowsburg, NY, the chamber of commerce will sponsor a sock hop from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on February, Saturday 16 at the Tusten Town Hall on Bridge Street. Light fare will be provided by Restaurant 15 Main, Jill’s Kitchen and the Main Street Cafe. There will be a cash bar, live entertainment by the VanTwistics, prizes for the best ‘50s costume and best dancers and several surprises. Admission costs $25 per person. Tickets are available at Narrowsburg Roasters, the Main Street Cafe, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and Jill’s Kitchen.

In Monticello, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sullivan County will host the first annual “Bop for the Boys & Girls Club,” a ‘50s-style cocktail hour and dance on Friday, February 22 at Hype at Monticello Gaming & Raceway.

The event will start at 7:00 p.m. and will feature light fare prepared by Monticello Gaming & Raceway, a cash bar and music by The Skydyne Jazz Project. ( See www.sjpband.com )

Guests are encouraged (but not required) to dress in ‘50s-theme garb for the evening.

Tickets cost $45 per person or $80 per couple, and all proceeds will remain in Sullivan County to benefit the programs in the Monticello and Fallsburg school districts, and support the club’s plans to expand into other school districts within the county.
