LINDSEY MARIE ANTOINETTE BILLMAN

Lindsey Marie Antoinette Billman of Port Jervis, NY passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2008. She was 15.

She was born March 28, 1992 in Port Jervis, the daughter of Peter and Denise Conklin Billman.

Lindsey was a sophomore at Port Jervis High School. She was secretary of her sophomore class, member of the varsity volleyball team, JV softball, French Club, Interact, Drama Club, Peer Leader, SADD, the Women’s School Choir and Whoosh Traveling Volleyball. Lindsey was a high honor student and member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and volunteered her time to the community and Bon Secours Community Hospital.

She is survived by her parents at home; her maternal grandparents William and Patricia Conklin of Port Jervis; her aunt and godmother Barbara Billman of Huston, PA; great-aunt Elizabeth Gurski of Nazareth, PA; her uncle and Godfather William Conklin Jr. of Port Jervis; aunts Peggy and Lynann Conklin; cousins Patrice and Arianna Munoz and Heather Conklin; and her extended family, Tracy and Michelle Margarum and children and Sue McDonald and her family.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Mary “Toni” Stellato Billman.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 30 at St. Mary’s RC Church, Port Jervis. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis.

ORVIS RUTLEDGE ELDRED

Orvis Rutledge Eldred died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at his home in Bethany, PA. He was 99.

The son of the late John F. and Minnie (Sears) Eldred, he was born in West Damascus, PA on November 22, 1909.

He attended school in West Damascus and then operated his own blacksmith shop on his father’s farm. In 1930 he graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL. In 1932 he married Selma May Myers of Indian Orchard, PA. He worked for Korb Plumbing Company and then for Bethany Homestead Farm Dairy. After WWII, he operated his own plumbing and heating company, but eventually went to work for Dirlam Brothers Construction Company. During that time, he was chief electrician of the Wayne County Fair. He worked as a salesman and heating engineer for Roche Plumbing Supply. When he retired he built a home in Bethany.

Orvis was a former trustee of the Wayne County Historical Society and past president of the Bethany Town Council. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons; Richard of Bethany and Ronald of Honesdale, PA; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale. Burial will be in the Indian Orchard Cemetery.

PHYLLIS (CONKLIN) GYLLENHAMMER

Phyllis Jane GyllenHammer of Callahan, FL, a retired registered nurse, entered into eternal rest on January 9, 2008. She was 67.

She was the daughter of Margaret Conklin of Callicoon Center, NY and the late Morris Conklin.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristina Torbett and her husband Thomas of Callahan; her granddaughter, Emelia Grace of Callahan; her mother of Callicoon Center; her brother William of Callicoon Center; her sister Audrey Conklin of Callicoon Center; her aunt and uncle of Callicoon, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Neil GyllenHammer; her father, Morris Conklin; and her brother, Ronnie.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 14 at Robert’s Downtown Chapel, Ocala, FL.

Burial was made in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Ocala.

CECELIA A. HENDERSHOT

Cecelia A. Hendershot of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Matamoras, PA died Friday, January 25, 2008 at Presbyterian Harris Hospice in Charlotte with her family by her side. She was 84.

She was born August 15, 1923 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and the late Erdie Lambert Seeber. She was married to the late Lester C. Hendershot, who died August 24, 1986.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Port Jervis, NY.

A family statement read: “Mom was very dedicated to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She read to all the children in her life. She loved sewing, gardening and doing her crossword puzzles. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who loved her.”

She is survived by her son, Paul L. Hendershot and his wife Patricia of Milford, PA; three daughters, Mary Bowers and her husband Gary of Narrowsburg, NY, Kathleen Phillips and her husband Gary of Port Jervis and Tracey Comfort and her husband Gene of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Stacey Dronke, Kerri Oliver, Gary Bowers, Amy Sondericker, Paige Zenes, Scott Phillips, Aaron Comfort, Chrissie Comfort and Melissa Cleveland; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank Seeber and Harry Seeber.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside funeral services will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Main St., Port Jervis, NY.

DOROTHY SCHADT

Dorothy Schadt of Jeffersonville, NY, died January 24, 2008, at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 85.

She was born May 16, 1922 in Liberty, NY, the daughter of Charles and Louise Ellmauer Wagner.

Dorothy was a retired assistant cashier at the First National Bank of Jeffersonville and a member of St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville.

She is survived by her husband, Jack S. Schadt, at home; one son, Charlie Schadt and his wife Sue of Jeffersonville; one daughter, Dottie Moylan and her husband Walter of Liberty, NY; five grandchildren, Karen Santoro, Jack Moylan, Jodi Allen, Chelsie Schadt and Courtney Schadt; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Santoro, Noah Santoro and Joseph Keller.

A memorial mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 29 at St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville, with Father Ignatius Vu officiating. Arrangements were made by Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home.

WORLEY W. WOODARD

Worley W. Woodard of Livingston Manor, NY, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. He was 84.

The son of the late Bryant and Oma Brendle Woodard, he was born in Bryson, NC on July 20, 1923. He was the widower of Loretta Woodard who died in November of 1987.

Worley served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a retired sandhog blaster of Local 147 in New York City.

Worley is survived by his longtime companion, Doris Reynolds of Livingston Manor; daughters Denise L. Buchholz of Roscoe, NY and Darcel E. Nero of Liberty, NY; son Worley D. “Pete” Starkweather of Jeffersonville, NY; daughters Nonnivee Watkins and Theresa Wright, both of North Carolina; sons Riley B. Woodard of Georgia, Gentry B., Delano F. and Morris D. Woodard, all of North Carolina; two brothers, Vannie Woodard and Frelin Woodard of North Carolina; one sister, Alda Wilson of North Carolina; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Darlene Fredenburg.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 26, at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home.

Interment followed at the East Branch Cemetery, East Branch.
