Facility complete after three-year process

COCHECTON, NY—Facilities that house dogs have created more than a bit of controversy in Cochecton in recent years, so when planners were approached about the construction of a new one, they made sure that everything was done right.

Dean Scharf, who with his wife, Krista, owns Dog Mountain Lodge on Route 116, said the mission of this kennel is not to be a shelter?as important as those are?but to be a business that boards, trains and grooms canines. Still, he had to convince planning board members that his kennel wouldn’t bother the neighbors.

Mayfield council seeks to block ethanol plant

MAYFIELD, PA - It’s no secret that the newly elected council in Mayfield Township doesn’t like the planned ethanol plant in their township.

But what is no longer a secret is that the new council has been working quietly to reverse the zoning approvals the previous council gave to the Northeast Ethanol and Renewable Resources Company, which is owned by Dunmore developer Louis DeNaples.

Optical scanners win out over touch screens

MONTICELLO, NY—Six years after officials in Washington voted to upgrade voting machines across the nation, officials in New York State have finally taken action.

The judge overseeing the lawsuit between the Department of Justice and the state on January 24 accepted a plan put forward by the New York State Board of Elections (BOE) to come into compliance with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).
