Free ice fishing contest for kids at Mitchell Pond

COCHECTON, NY — The Jerry Sheppard Memorial Ice Fishing Contest, a free youth event, will be held on Saturday, February 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The contest is open to those 16 years old and under. Bait and refreshments will be supplied, and there will be prizes for all youngsters. No ATVs or snowmobiles are allowed.

To get to the site, follow CR 114 approximately one and one half miles from the intersection with Route 17B in Fosterdale to Mitchell Pond West. Make a left and follow the signs to the site. From Route 97, follow CR 114 east toward Fosterdale approximately two and one half miles to Mitchell Pond West. Make a right and follow signs to the site. The event will be held subject to weather; listen to SWUL and WVOS for cancellations.

The ice fishing contest is sponsored by the Forz or Morz Hunting Club, the Sheppard family and the Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs of Sullivan County, Inc.
