THOMAS I. BOGGS

Thomas I. Boggs, a retired electrician for Grumman Manufacturing, Long Island, NY, died January 17, 2008 at home in Cochecton, NY. He was 90.

The son of Lloyd W. and Benita Parker Boggs, he was born September 4, 1917 in Bradenton, FL.

He was a member of the Cochecton Men’s Club and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Campbell Boggs at home; one son, Thomas I. Boggs Jr. of California; two daughters, Bonnie Ann Altadonna of Boynton Beach, FL and Patricia Marie Boggs of Lynbrook, NY; one brother, Lloyd W. Boggs Jr. of Elmont, NY; a stepson, Bruce Campbell of Middletown, NY; a stepdaughter, Christine Flanigan of Middletown, NY; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Benita Nosak and Lois Haner.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ramona Carpenter.

Services were held on Sunday, January 20 at the Cochecton Fire House, Cochecton.

RUSSELL W. BURCHER

Russell W. Burcher of Cherry Ridge and formerly of Honesdale, PA, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was 84.

Born in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Russell H. and Frieda Burcher. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School. He served in the 82nd Airborne Glider Infantry and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. In his early years, he worked in heavy construction and mechanics and, later, in postal delivery for the Borough of Honesdale. During retirement, he was a school bus driver for Helmer’s Transportation and Avery Transportation. He enjoyed traveling and doing yard work with family and friends. He was also an avid auction-goer and enjoyed collecting old tools.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Rickard Burcher; a daughter, Susan Klikus and her husband Todd of Beach Lake, PA; four sons, Jack and his wife Bonnie of Bethany, PA, Gary and his wife Cindy, Bob and his wife Marsha and Terry and his wife Lisa, all of Cherry Ridge, PA; nine grandchildren, Russell S. Burcher, Lindsay Burcher, Nicholas and his wife Devon, Amanda Avery, Ashley Martin and her husband Danny, Berry Burcher, Jenna Avery, Carson Klikus and Sam Burcher; a sister, Rhoda Burcher of Tucson, AZ; and a sister-in-law, Ann Burcher of Umatilla, FL.

He was preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Gussie Rickard; and a brother, Jack T. Burcher.

A private memorial service was held on Sunday, January 13 in Darling Cemetery, Cherry Ridge.

The family is planning a memorial gathering for family and friends to celebrate his life in the spring.

HENRIETTA FALLAR

Henrietta Fallar, a longtime area resident of the Narrowsburg, NY and Lake Huntington, NY area, and most recently of Memphis, TN, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died on January 14, 2008. She was 64.

A family statement reads, “She was dearly loved in life, and will be continuously loved in death. Her love will always be the center of our world, and the guidance in our everyday lives.”

She is survived by three sons, Robert Wilson, Charles Wilson, and Michael Wilson; one daughter, Lynda Barrowclough; two sisters, Annetta Wilson and Diana DeNoylles; one brother, Skip Hinkley; 13 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Services were held with the family in Tennessee.

HELEN DWYER HOFFMAN

Helen Dwyer Hoffman of New Bern, NC, a former resident of Callicoon, NY, passed away on January 2, 2008 at home with her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ed Jacunski. She was 93.

She was born in New York City in 1914, one of eight children of Francis and Caroline Weisenbach Dwyer.

In 1927, the family moved to Callicoon to operate the Franklin Hotel, which they owned. The hotel is now known as Sidetracks.

Helen touched the lives of many family members, neighbors, friends and students. Her spirit and wisdom will be long remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Edward Hoffman and wife Sharon; daughter Carol Jacunski and husband Edwin of New Bern; four grandchildren, Julie Cain and husband Beaumont of Denver, CO, Michael Cain and wife Eileen of Oakland, CA and Sean and Matthew Hoffman of Harrisburg, PA; one sister, Marion Roche, 98, of Callicoon; five great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Church Blessed Trinity Parish to celebrate her life was held on Monday, January 7. The Reverend Thomas Watts officiated.

She will be laid to rest in the spring at the Saint James Cemetery with her husband, Edward F. Hoffman, who predeceased her in 1972.

GENE C. PARKER

Gene C. Parker of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 at New York University Hospital, New York City. He was 61.

He was born on January 15, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY. Gene was a longtime employee of Veritas Therapeutic Community, Barryville, NY.

He is survived by his wife at home, Catherine Parker; one son, Thomas, and his wife Rebecca; three daughters, Shannon, April and Angela; two sisters, Doris Joy and her life partner Judith Tracey and Madeline Langstaff; his extended family and friends; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Wilhelmina and Thomas Winters; and two brothers, Thomas and Edward Winters.

Prayers were offered on Tuesday, January 22 at 10:15 a.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA. The Rev. August Ricciardi officiated. Interment was private.

MARY ANN QUANCHI

Mary Ann (Murphy) Quanchi, formerly of Beach Lake, PA, died on Friday, January 11, 2008 in Mercy Hospital, Scranton, PA. She was 65.

Mary Ann had been a patient at Brighten at Julia Ribaudo, Lake Ariel, PA, for the past three years.

She was born in North Bergen, NJ, daughter of the late Monica (Stoehr) and Thomas Murphy. She attended Hawley High School and was employed as a waitress at area restaurants. She was a past member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley, PA.

She is survived by a son, Edward Perry and his wife Valerie of Lakewood, PA; three grandchildren, Luke, Brooke and Jack Perry; a sister and brother-in-law, Monica and Carlton Perry of Annville, PA; several nieces and nephews; and her longtime companion, Michael Kerwin.

Her husband, Leonard Quanchi, died in 1978.

Mary Ann was also preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley Perry; and a sister, Dorothy Murphy.

Funeral services were private. Cremation was at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

EDWARD SCHWEIZER

Edward Schweizer of Highland Lake, NY, a former Warwick, NY policeman, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. He was 81.

The son of Joseph and Caroline Meyer Schweizer, he was born June 6, 1926 in Rosendale, NY. He was a member of the American Legion Post #214 and Fire Department, both in Warwick, and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Edward worked for the Warwick Water Department and was a plumber.

He is survived by his companion of 30 years, Joyce Ashley of Highland Lake; five daughters, Helen Corkum of Warwick, Carol Bogart of Warwick, Joann Lemin of Schenectady, NY, Marie Lindemann of Schenectady, Donna Specht of Warwick; one son, Thomas Schweizer of Warwick; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at the convenience of the family.
