Lady Panthers tops at Holiday Mountain alpine ski race

T-V/Fallsburg’s Adriaan’s best among locals in third

BRIDGEVILLE, NY — Look ma, there’s snow! Such a pronouncement might seem absurdly obvious for a January evening in Sullivan County. But last year, it was February 7 before area high school skiers got to race down the slopes of Holiday Mountain due to a lack of the white stuff.

On January 14, no such problem existed as Monticello’s girls team got a rare win over normally unbeatable Onteora, besting the Lady Indians 2:42.91 to 2:44.21. Onteora’s Marlise Coombe (35.06) was the night’s top skier. She beat out Rondout Valley’s Robin Davenport (36.86). Samantha Adriaans of Tri-Valley/Fallsburg (T-V/Fallsburg) (37.62) took third.

The Lady Panthers came out on top by placing a number of skiers with good times, including Maria Pavese (39.15) in fifth, Haley Heins (40.12) in sixth, Devinne Dupuy (41.33) in eighth and Amy Heins (42.41) in 10th.

Sullivan West’s Kassie Thelman (40.27) took seventh.

Monticello second among boys

Monticello’s boys team (2:20.98) finished second to Onteora (2:15.46). T-V/Fallsburg (2:27.08) garnered third place.

Onteora’s Michael Thmposn (32.08) had the night’s fastest time. He beat out Monticello’s Ryan Sonnenschein (32.19) and T-V/Fallsburg’s Christopher Egenes (32.67). Other top Panthers included Richard Heins (34.84) in seventh place and Skylar Glick (36.93) in 11th. Ian Laufersweller finished in 12th in 37.02 and Colin Bunce took 13th in 37.04. T-V/Fallsburg’s Weston Currey (37.72) and John Bernstein (37.57) took 14th and 15th respectively.
