Sean Floor gets 100th career win besting Section Nine career wins leader D’Amato in semifinals

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY—Wrestling has always been an iconic sport at Port Jervis High School. The Red Raiders enjoy a second-place historical power ranking among Section Nine teams with their crowning of 68 sectional champions. Valley Central is ranked number one in that historical ranking.

Last year, the Red Raiders kept up their fine tradition as then sophomore Steven Butler (189) and junior Sean Floor (140) emerged victorious in the Section Nine tournament and sweetened the retiring moment of iconic coach Dave Simmons.

Little by little

ROSCOE, NY - When your season begins with five straight losses, a victory can be ever so sweet. So imagine how delicious four in a row can be, especially if the last two bring you to .500 in your division. That’s the current status for Eldred, now 4-5 (2-2 OCIAA), following its workman-like 62-54 road win over a Roscoe team that never gave up on January 10 and a win over St. Rose.

GOSHEN, NY—When it comes to evaluating talent in any arena of life, there are those who are assessed as very good and others who are simply extraordinary. The Lady Eagles of John S. Burke Catholic, now 10-0 (4-0) following their dominant 40-27 win over Sullivan West on January 11, fall into that latter peerless category. Always a force to contend with, Burke’s really got it going this season. With nine seniors onboard, something coach Bob Turner has never had before, Burke is a juggernaut.
