Films from far away provide WCAA’s winter fare

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) Festival has started its 2008 Monday Night Cinema program, hosted at Cinema 6 in Honesdale, PA. The next screening, on Monday, January 21, will be a French double feature of “La Jetee,” (1962), directed by Chris Marker and “Blood of a Poet,” (1929) directed by Jean Cocteau. On Monday, January 28 there will be a showing of Swedish director Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” (1957).

Funded in part through a Villaume Foundation grant, WCAA’s Monday Night Cinema brings Wayne County a variety of classic, foreign and independent films. Showtime is at 8:15 p.m., and curator Ted Malakin will provide a brief overview of each film. Following the movie, there is a discussion, giving audience members the opportunity to explore the meaning and creative process of film as a modern art form.

The suggested donation is $5 per person, and the donation goes to support WCAA’s community programs.

Movies screened on subsequent Mondays will include “Persona,” “Orpheus” and “Swept Away.”
