ALLAN R. BERUBE

Allan R. Bérubé, a writer, historian, businessman and active community member, died on Tuesday December 11, 2007 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. He was 61.

The son of Ronald I. and Lorraine Tatro Bérubé, he was born on December 3, 1946 in Springfield, MA.

Survivors include his stepmother, Florence A. Bérubé of Munson, MA; his partner, John Nelson of Livingston Manor, NY; three sisters, Dianne Taylor and her husband Jamie of Heldsburg, CA, Florence J. Bérubé of Westfield, MA and Annette Bérubé and her husband Brian Stimson of Mint Hill, NC; one nephew and two nieces.

A celebration of Allan’s life will be held on Saturday January 5, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. at the Granite Building, 1 Cablevision Center, Ferndale, NY.

DENISE M. FISCHER

Denise M. Fischer of Deltona, FL, formerly a lifelong resident of Cochecton, NY, died Saturday, December 8, 2007 in Deltona. She was 63.

The daughter of the late Donald and Vivian Taylor DuBois, she was born April 26, 1944 in Bethel, NY. She was the widow of Joseph Fischer Sr.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Fischer; a son, Joseph Fischer Jr.; two sisters, Patricia DuBois and Deborah DuBois; and a brother, Michael DuBois; and one grandchild, Kira Fischer.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 14 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY.

Burial will be made in the Fosterdale Cemetery, Fosterdale, NY.

STEPHANIE K. PATTEN

Stephanie K. Patten of Beach Lake, PA died unexpectedly December 11, 2007 at her home. She was 29.

Born January 23, 1978 in Honesdale, PA, she is the daughter of Alpheus “Sonny” Robey and wife Jean and Therese Monaghan Dux and husband Philip, all of Honesdale. She was a Honesdale High School graduate, class of 1996, and later graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Stephanie was employed at the Wayne County M.H.-M.R. as the CAASP coordinator.

She is survived by her husband, Travis W. Patten; her sons, Lukas and Jack, at home; a brother, Taylor Dux of Honesdale; three sisters, Sarah Mickel of Beach Lake and Jenny Robey and Morgan Dux, both of Honesdale; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Mass was held on December 14 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale. Cremation was held at Maple Hill Crematory in Archbald, PA. Interment will be private. Arrangements were made by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St., Honesdale.

IRVIN THOMAS "TOM" WILDING

Irvin Thomas “Tom” Wilding of Honesdale, PA died Wednesday, December 12 at Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 63.

He was born on June 21, 1944 in Dover, NJ to the late Irvin “Cubby” and Helen Wilding. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike after 37 years. He was an avid golfer and loved being with his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Sue Thorpe of Waymart; two children, Marta Pingel and husband Lee of Beach Lake, PA and Jenny Meagher and husband Paul of Honesdale, six grandchildren, two brothers, Kenneth Wilding and wife Marlies of North Carolina and Dave Wilding of Greenfield Township, PA.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nina Wilding Rook of California.

Funeral services were held on December 15 at the Jenkins Funeral Home, Waymart, PA.

CHARLEY J. ZAIMES

Charley J. Zaimes died Wednesday, December 12 in Lackawaxen, PA. He was 87.

He was born in Middletown, NY on March 11, 1920, the son of Greek immigrants.

His career as a reporter, photographer and radio newsman began after leaving high school early in Middletown to help support his family. He started in 1937 as a sports writer for the Middletown Times-Herald.

Between 1939 and 1945, he was a national and international reporter and photographer, and covered the White House during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s tenure. In 1945, he began a career in radio, broadcasting a nightly news commentary from the lobby of the Orange Inn in Goshen, NY over radio station WALL in Middletown. He later became the station’s news director.

In 1953, he joined The Morning Call in Allentown, PA as the paper’s newscaster over radio station WSAN, and subsequently worked as reporter, rewrite man, wire editor and outdoors columnist. For his coverage of the hurricanes and flooding that clamed 93 lives in Monroe and Pike counties in 1955, he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. In the early 1960s, he left the newspaper to become news director of WSAN.

In 1962, he helped organize and lead a crew of hundreds of volunteers to the New Jersey shore to help with the cleanup from a storm that had battered the coast, and was honored by the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce for his efforts.

He became public relations director for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in Harrisburg in 1965. He left the agency in 1970 to become press secretary for Lt. Gov. Raymond Broderick in his unsuccessful campaign for governor. He was a life member of the Pennsylvania Oudoor Writers Association.

In the 1970s, he co-owned and operated a restaurant in Harrisburg with his older son, Dimitri. He was managing editor of Angler’s News and became part owner in 1976. From 1981-91, he owned and operated Angler’s Roost Margate, NJ, co-owned with Dimitri. Both were licensed party boat captains. In 1992, they moved operations to Lackawaxen, PA, opening Angler’s Roost and Hunter’s Rest. The business continued after a fire in 2006 destroyed the main building, which is under reconstruction.

Survivors include his companion, Patricia Murphy of Lackawaxen; sons Dimitri of Lackawaxen, and Jon and wife Jeanette of Felton, DW; grandson Adam of Felton; brother Nick of Washington, DC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Karch, in 2001. He was also predeceased by his parents and two older brothers, Peter and John.

Cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 12, 2008 at the Lackawaxen Township Volunteer Fire Department, Lackawaxen.
