Sullivan West’s Brad Reimer, right, hits a key shot down the stretch to keep his team in the mix in the Billy Moran opener against S.S. Seward. Reimer would later score the game-winning shot in overtime after teammate James Spruil tied the game at the end of regulation play. Seward’s Scott Glowaczewski closes too late to alter Reimer’s shot.

Billy Moran Tip-Off Classic Tournament
Buzzer beater
Sullivan Wests Spruill ties the game against Spartans in final second and Reimer wins it in OT in Moran opener
By RICHARD A. ROSS
LAKE HUNTINGTON, NYWith only two games into the young season, Sullivan West is showing remarkable resiliency and poise despite the loss of the nucleus of its 2006 team to graduation.
In their first game, the Dawgs unleashed a torrent of 11 threes to down oversized Webutuck. Clearly more than a one-day wonder, the Bulldogs outlasted S.S. Seward 56-55 in overtime in the opening round of the Billy Moran Tournament to turn heads again.
The win propelled Sullivan West into the championship game against high-flying Port Jervis, which had subdued athletic Walton 64-51 in the tourney opener (See Air Show, on www.riverreportersports.com ).

Indoor track athletes get into gear at West Point meet
By RICHARD A. ROSS
WEST POINT, NYWeekends are times for many high school kids to sleep in. But no such luxury exists for indoor track and field athletes, who arise in the dark on Saturdays to board school busses bound for West Point for the meets that start at 9:00 a.m.
For the runners, jumpers and throwers from Liberty, Sullivan West, Eldred and Tri-Valley, the meet on December 8 marked only the second week of competition in the young season. But when it comes to making strides in events, time is of the essence.
