A little piece of olde England in Hancock

HANCOCK, NY — Hancock will hold its first “Dickens’s Christmas” on East Front Street from 2:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15.

The Hancock Partners Inc. will kick off the festivities with an open house from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at DAB/Neighbors Insurance at 85 East Front Street. Ebenezer Scrooge and friends will appear at the open house and give out eggnog, hot cider, Christmas cookies and coffee to those stopping by. This will also be a great opportunity for the public to talk with the Partners (and Ebenezer) about what they would like to see in Hancock

At 7:30 p.m., the curtain will rise on “Inspecting Carol,” presented by the Little Victory Players at the Old Capitol Theatre. “Inspecting Carol” is a modern twist on the Dickens play that involves the financial problems of today right down to the availability of grant funding.

The Family School chorus will perform during the intermission. Ebenezer steps slightly out of character to present his gifts to our Mayor, Town Supervisor and Dr. Berg. Perhaps this irregular behavior is the Dickens “twist” that will make this a truly unique event.

Tickets for the evening performance are $5 apiece, with proceeds going to the Hancock Community Education Foundation. Early tickets are available at NBT and the front desk of the Hancock House Hotel for $4. Advertising and production costs are being underwritten by the Hancock Partners Inc.
