Free showing of ‘Evan Almighty’ at Callicoon Theatre

CALLICOON, NY — Every year, Callicoon Theatre presents a free film showing to the community as a token of its appreciation. In this, the 15th year of the tradition, the film will be “Evan Almighty” (rated PG), a family comedy starring Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman, with shows scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 15.

In the movie, Congressman Evan Baxter (Carell) is chosen by God (Freeman) to prepare for a devastating flood by building an ark. What results is a divine comedy of epic proportions.

“Our loyal patrons are responsible for keeping the Callicoon Theater open; this is our way of thanking them for their support and friendship throughout the year,” said Jim and Barbara Kayton, owners and operators of the theater since 1986.

Opened in 1948, the 380-seat Callicoon Theater is the oldest continuously operated cinema in Sullivan County. The theater offers the largest screen in the region. It has been voted Best Movie Theater in the region by moviegoers annually since 1986. The theater has been honored by the U.S. Congress, New York State Assembly and the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce.
