Deadline approaching for environmental education grants
HARRISBURG, PA Schools, universities, non-profit groups and county conservation districts are reminded that the deadline to submit pre-applications for environmental education grants is Friday, December 14. The grants support projects and programs that increase environmental awareness, understanding and stewardship.
We hope the projects funded by these grants spark an interest and appreciation of our environment that will last beyond a students academic career, McGinty said. Pre-application is the first stage in the environmental education grant process. It provides the department with a short description of the proposed project to determine its eligibility. Three members of the Environmental Education Advisory Council review each pre-application. Organizations submitting pre-applications that are accepted are then asked to submit a full application with more detail.
Grant amounts vary from $3,000 for mini-grants to up to $20,000 in areas designed specifically to cover timely and critically important topics, including sustainable energy sources, air quality and watershed issues.
To request an application manual, write to DEP Environmental Education Grants Program, P.O. Box 2063, Harrisburg, PA 17105-2063, or call 717/772-1828.
