SCCC to run American Legion Summer Baseball League
Interested 15-19 year olds invited to SCCC Field House on December 15
LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY The Floyd Keener American Legion Post #315 in Roscoe, will sponsor two American Legion baseball teams in the spring of 2008. Boys aged 15 to 19 interested in playing at the highest level of competitive travel baseball are encouraged to attend a meeting at Sullivan County Community Colleges (SCCCs) Paul Gerry Field house on Saturday, December 15 at 12:00 noon.
The 2008 Floyd Keener American Legion Post 315 Rangers is a travel baseball program that offers a variety of benefits and opportunities. These include off-season indoor workouts, discounts on equipment and team apparel, a full fundraising package to help defray cost, skill development, quality coaching, tournament experience, national competition, new friendships and lasting memories and college recruiting opportunities.
Since 1925, The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball program. The first National Championship tournament was held in 1926. Since then, over 10 million teenagers have played American Legion Baseball. In 2005 more than 100,000 players, aged 15 to 19, participated. Since 1985, over 1,900 new teams have registered to play.
On average, 52 percent of Major League Baseball players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers. Nearly 80 percent of all college players played American Legion Baseball as teenagers. Major League Baseball has supported the program annually since 1926 and currently contributes $35,500 (three percent of the national budget), which helps offset tournament expenses for American Legion teams at Regional and World Series Tournaments.
