Dressing up Main Street for the holidays
NARROWSBURG, NY What would the holidays be without special decorations?
Kelly Dean, owner of the Bear Noel shop in Narrowsburg, was busily securing birch branches to the front of his shop on November 19, after putting up 75-some trees elsewhere on Main Street.
Dean, who is in his fourth year in business in the hamlet, will also decorate Kirk Road with lighted trees in barrels. Dean said he cuts mostly poplar and river birch saplings from ditches under telephone wires where they would be cut down anyway. He fashions them into arched shapes, and will adorn them with white lights.
In front of his store, the large structure of birch branches will also be outlined with lights.
Dean said he has been working on the project for 12 days, and plans to finish in time for the tree lighting on the deck on Main Street on November 24 at 5:00 pm. The event is sponsored by the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce and the Tusten Youth Commission.
