Free Thanksgiving dinner
MILFORD, PA A free community Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Broad and Ann Streets on November 22 for those who cannot be with their families or who are in need on Thanksgiving Day. The meal is prepared and is served at 12:00 noon on Thursday. The day starts at 9:00 a.m. for the volunteers who cook the food, since they first pack up and deliver turkey dinners and extras to many people in meals-on-wheels programs or to anyone who finds it difficult to come out. All are invited to share in the food and fellowship and volunteers are always welcome. 570/296-8079.

Giving Tree erected in Narrowsburg
NARROWSBURG, NY The Giving Tree, a traditional Christmas project of the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Auxiliary, will be placed in Pecks Market the day after Thanksgiving. The tree will bear tags listing the age and gender of a child in the area. Donors are asked to leave unwrapped gifts (maximum cost $10), along with the tag selected, at Pecks Market before December 15. Volunteers will sort, wrap and arrange for distribution of the gifts by Christmas to make the holidays happier for these children.
Honesdale for the Holidays
HONESDALE, PA Honesdale kicks off the holidays with a three-day festival featuring a wide variety of activities, including Christmas music in the Fred Miller pavilion on Main Street, a Santa parade and horse-drawn carriage rides. (See page 23).
Jeffersonville steps out for the holidays

Craft fair at the fire hall
BEACH LAKE, PA There will be a holiday craft fair at the Beach Lake Fire Hall, Route 652, Beach Lake, PA from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Requested donation is $1. There will be door prizes and food and beverages available for purchase at the event, which is sponsored by the Beach Lake Fire Company Auxiliary.
Handmade for the holidays
CALLICOON CENTER, NY The first weekend of Handmade for the Holidays, an annual local holiday craft show featuring local artists and craftsmen, will occur on Saturday and Sunday, November 24 and 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hills Country Inn at Gulf and Bethlehem Roads. This year, the event will occur over two weekends, with the second, the Duke Pottery Craft Show & French Pastry Breakfast, on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 855 County Rd. 93, in Roscoe. Claus photos for a cause
HAWLEY, PA The members of the Pure Energy team of the Relay For Life of the Lake Region will host a Pictures with Santa fundraiser on Saturday, November 24 at Poindexters Toy Store. Children, adults and well-behaved pets are welcome to come for their annual Christmas photos with Mr. Claus from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For a $5 donation to the American Cancer Society, photos will be taken and emailed for use as you please, or bring your own camera to capture that special memory. The fundraiser will also feature a holiday bake sale, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of the Lake Region.

Historical museum holds open house
HONESDALE, PA The Wayne County Historical Society will hold its annual holiday open house on Saturday, November 24 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The museum, shown above, will be open, the shop is stocked with items for Christmas giving and refreshments will be served. The societys 2007 Christmas ornaments (see page 20) will be available, along with a limited supply of ornaments from other years.

There will be carol singing led by the choir from St. Pauls Church in Monticello under the direction of Stewart Hirsch, a lighting of Main Street Christmas lights and a party in the town hall on Bridge Street with Santa, pictures, crafts, food, music and gifts for the children.

In a state of thanksgiving
BEACH LAKE, PA Stories, songs, readings and generally celebrative sentiments will be shared in a community service at the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The one-hour service begins at 10:15 a.m., and will explore concepts of gratitude and thankfulness in the ordinary that exists around us. The service, which is held at the Berlin Township Community Center, will be followed by Thanksgiving Leftover Potluck lunch. All are welcome. 845/252-6626.
