It’s a wonderful life

Jeffersonville offers a small-town American Christmas

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Village of Jeffersonville has announced its first annual “It’s a Wonderful Life Holiday Festivities” celebration. Inspired by the Frank Capra classic, the good citizens of Jeffersonville are celebrating the true spirit of the season by hosting a series of family-fun, community and retail events starting with the James Dworetsky Parade on November 23. The festivities will continue through December 31.

There will be horse-drawn carriage rides up and down Main Street every Sunday, free gift wrapping by local high school students, carolers serenading the town each weekend, holiday bake sales and crafting and more.

A variety of businesses and organizations around town will provide sites for special events. The Western Sullivan Public Library, Jeffersonville branch, will host Storytime with Mrs. Claus, Bart’s Italiano will offer Cookie Decorating, Catskill Country Ceramics will teach a children’s pottery class, Little Duck House will offer a Lucky Girl & Boy Toy Drawing, Mullally’s will have Breakfast with Santa, The Pantry will present Pictures with Santa and Global Home will host an origami ornament exhibit, among other events.

There will also be holiday-inspired competitions such as Goode & Plenty’s Homemade Recycled Ornament Contest, The Pantry’s second annual Gingerbread House Competition and Matson’s $25 Gift Certificate Giveway. Tocci’s Salon is giving a make-over to a deserving person within Sullivan County. If you know a single mom or dad, a neighborhood “Grandma” or anyone who gives much more than they receive, you can nominate them for a head-to-toe make-over.

In keeping with the spirit of giving, the community has decided to adopt the Children’s Library at Western Sullivan Public Library as this year’s local charity. Most businesses will be hosting a “Keep the Change Campaign” to raise funds for children’s books. The wonderful women of ‘Specially U have partnered with Dolores Delgado to raise funds and items for the Support the Troops Project. They are looking for a variety of items such as toothpaste, shampoo, baby wipes, disposable razors, chap stick, hard candies, drink mixes and new or used DVDs. Any and all support is more than welcome.

On certain weekends participating businesses will host a Skip the Mall 10 percent off sale; follow the red balloons to participating sites. The Blue Victorian will have an end-of-season clearance sale on December 15, and the Secret Garden will cut 25 percent off the price of everything costing $5 and up until January 1
